Hi Darlings! I hope that you are having a great start to your February because I know that I have. I kicked mine off with a small book haul. In this haul, I purchased The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw. It’s holographic cover is what caught my eye plus in my goodreads feed I saw two of my friends had read it. So of course I had to read it! So let’s dive into my thoughts on this witchy book!
The Wicked Deep is about a small town called Sparrow in Oregon where three sisters were convicted of being witches. Their punishment was to be drowned alive in the cove. The towns punishment was a curse that results in the death of several young men during what is called the Swan season. This year though, Penny hopes to stop this curse before she and Bo end up dead. The cover of this book is simply stunning. I love the rich dark blue and the silver holographic design. I think that it really sets the witchy vibes!
The prose of this book is simply stunning and drew me in instantly. If you are looking for a YA version of Practical Magic this is the book for you! Ernshaw did amazing job of covering all the bases with her plot for this book. You will think that you’re reading about a young woman in the woes of a curse but it’s not as it seems. I liked that the story flashed back to when the sisters were murdered. I think it gave me a better understanding of why the girls do what they do. Penny is a well rounded character that keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next. Bo is the perfect love interest for Penny and has right amount of mystery. Rose her bestfriend, is a ray of sunshine and I am happy that Penny had someone to help her go through the Swan Season. I would reread this book with no issues and I would love to read more from Ernshaw. Overall, I give this book a four out of five stars and I recommend this book to anyone who wants a YA witch book with romance.
