Hi Darlings!

I hope that you are doing well! I know that I am. I thought I would share with you a rather tasty review of the first book in Agatha Frost’s Peridale Cafe Series. So let’s get started!

This series is centered around the main character, Julia South. Julia is a middle aged woman in her hometown of Peridale. She’s just returned from having to separate from her husband due to his infidelity.  Julia has a stepford dressing style and loves the classic aesthetic of that era. She owns a local cafe called The Peridale Cafe that is known for its desserts and pastries. She starts off at the beginning of the book reluctant to sign her divorce papers. She gets distracted from having to worry about signing them with her new sassy neighbor, Detective Inspector Barker and the murder of her most strangest customer. When her close friend is being charged for the murder Julia rushes to find out who the real murder is before Barker is forced to put her friend in jail.

Pros:

• The cover is so stunning and fitting for the book.
• Julia is a relatable character. She has flaws and it’s so good to have a heroine not be a goody too shoes all the time. Even in their own minds.
• I like how Julia handles the situation with Jessie and doesn’t give up when it gets hard. It is difficult to take in a child that you didn’t raise then have to put up boundaries they’ve never had deal with. I am glad that Julia rose to the challenge!
• I like her relationship with her Grandmother! Her grandmother reminds me of my own!
• That the killer wasn’t blatantly obvious! I was kept guessing who the killer was up until it was revealed!

So, there wasn’t any cons in this book to me. The book was evenly paced, characters are well rounded, the plot flowed perfectly, and it left me wanting to read the second book. I do recommend this book to you! It’s super sweet with a dash of murder and a great cast of characters!  I give this book a five out five stars. Have you read Agatha Frost? Let me know down below!
