* REVIEW * A Whole New World

I got this book because it was recommended to me by a co-worker who found me reading Once Upon A Dream; which ironically is the second book the twisted tales series. I got the book and I adore the cover. The cover I got is the one on the right. The one on the left is the new cover art. I actually like the new cover art more. But I think that has kinda more to do with I like book series covers to match or correspond. Anyways, I think that it is very pretty and reminds me of the original disney movie. This is the first book in the retelling YA series. Instead of Aladdin getting the lamp Jafar does and changes Agrabah into literally a whole new world.

This world is much darker than the original story line. For the first part of the book we get to see a lot of the original movie plot line. Then after about 25% into it the story finally diverges. I really liked that it did diverge and give us something new. Aladdin’s original movie was good and I think this was a good retelling. I liked that Jasmine was stronger and more focused on helping her people. I actually like Jafar and I feel like Braswell definitely caught his essence as a character. The book had some laughs. The world building was well developed and the characters developed quickly. The plot was very fast paced and there was a good deal of action. I think that if you were wanting a complete 100% retelling that this might not be the book for you. It still holds the core values of the original story line. I give this book a four out of five stars. I recommend this book and I look forward to reading more in the series.
