Princess Dejah Thoris is enamored by the tales of the ancient gardens of Mars. These gardens are lush and full of life where as the planet is barren beside its never ending wars. After a mishap with releasing a prisoner she finds herself waiting till the moment she can go on her own expedition to discover the gardens. When the moment arrives she doesn’t hesitate. She sets out with her old guard and three of the scientific students from the royal academy.

This honestly gave me some feels of the Mad Max: Fury Road movie feels. That kind of dystopian feels. I think that it is cool that this is set on Mars not Earth. The cover is what caught my attention. I thought it might be some Greek retelling but I am glad that it wasn’t. The author does a great job of having Dejah explain the planets history. The planet has been ravaged by the martians and the humans there since the plant life and water are almost gone. I love that Dejah’s main goal is to save everyone not just her people. The art is stunning and I think that it was consistent through out the book. The chapter breaks were appropriate and reminded me of an actual book. The story had a good plot, character development, and kept my attention. I didn’t once try to skip ahead because I’d gotten bored. I give this graphic novel a 4 out of 5 stars. I do this because I think that there could have been a bit more time spent in the actual gardens. Other than that it was good! I do recommend this book and I look forward to seeing the next installment.
