Love At Last Call is a stand alone book that follows the blossoming relationship between bar owner, Berit, and a paralegal named Lauren. The book starts off Lauren revealing that she is in a horror show of a living situation and is having a terrible time at work. She is currently lives with her best friend and his girlfriend, her ex-girlfriend, and her ex-girlfriend’s new girlfriend. To escape her ex and her new girlfriend, she goes out with her best friend to a local lesbian hotspot called, The Dollhouse.
The Dollhouse is owned by the charismatic and flirtatious, Berit. Berit is the eldest daughter of five siblings. She has a strained family life but has a good relationship with her sister and co-owner of the bar, Lou. She is kind and instantly attracted Lauren. Lauren at the start is brutally honest about her not liking Berit because of her assumptions of her. I will have to say that even to me she was mean but the reasoning’s behind it were real. Through a series of events that remind me of a soap opera Lauren finds herself booted from her paralegal job and starts working for Berit. The two of them agree to be friends which starts out okay until they start falling in love with one another. All that hard work seems to fall apart as Berit’s past threatens the bar and Lauren accidentally gives them a way to hurt Berit and the Dollhouse.
I honestly think that the whole storyline about her past threatening the bar left me feeling like another reason should have been there. This left me feeling a little let down. The romance was good and the chemistry blossomed amazingly throughout the story. I do recommend this book. I give it a 4 out 5 stars. I think the characters develop well and you get a good description of the world. Also I love the great information about the drinks and the recipe at the end! This is a sweet sip of a book and you’ll love it.
