Marjorie Glatt is a thirteen year old teenage girl that feels like a ghost going through the motions to keep her crumbling family together. Her family was devastated when her mother passed away. This lead to her father sinking into depression and mixing it with the alcohol. His actions have her stepping in to take care of her younger brother, Owen, who has just entered kindergarten. Things seem to take a turn for the worse when Mr. Saubertuck has his eyes set on the laundry mat and Marjorie finds a ghost haunting her laundrymat.
I like the cover of this book it is simplistic and child friendly. The inside art isn’t as simplistic. It is rough around the edges but still really good. I can see where Marjorie is definitely relatable especially to children who have to care of themselves a lot or are going through the same things as she is. Mr. Saubertuck is very creepy and a good antagonist. I especially like that he watches Days of Our Lives. That is such a staple soap opera. It was nice to see the real struggles between Marjorie and Mr. Saubertuck. It was such a saddening tale of how Wendell became a ghost. I liked the friendship that Marjorie and Wendell. I do wish thought that she discovered him sooner. I didn’t like the dad in this story but that’s what made it realistic and somewhat relatable. The story had a good plot and it had good character development. I give this book a four out of five stars. I do recommend this book if you’re looking for a book that starts out sad but ends really good with a young girl flourishing.
